Marriage Therapy and A Blown Trailer Tire

Uncategorized Aug 17, 2026

If you've been following my blogs or podcast for a bit you know, that we got a 32-foot camper a couple of years ago.  Following the relaxation and enjoyment of camping, were serval blown tires and I've experienced the terror of my husband turning into our slightly dipping long curvy full of trees driveway.

Once we got in the driveway, we had to get it turned around in the tight places and between trees.  If you've never driven any kind of trailer... you have no idea what I'm talking about.  Right?  Take my word for it.  It took about 5 trips to get it right, and I'm still anxious as we get near our house... EVERY TIME!!

Why, because traumatic things stick with us more than happy moments.

With that aside, we had our 4th tire blow out only to find out from the guy who camped beside us... that we needed a D type tire rather than a C type.  (That's Connie language.)

We bought all new tires after the 2nd tire blew AND A 3rd spare tire blew on the poor trailer repair guy that just about scared him to death!  (It was just hanging on the back of the camper... guess it was hot... boom.)

We took a hint... this trailer needs new tires... but...

We didn't know WHAT we didn't know.

Could it be... that there's ONE thing you're missing in your marriage, that thing you have no idea about, and it's causing one blow out after another in your relationship? Why don't  you know how to fix it?

People don't know what they don't know,

Until suddenly one day,

They realize they don't know it.

That's when suddenly the light comes on.

They wonder, how could I ever have missed that?

Sometimes it's after the divorce.

Too late.

This trip reminded me how important teamwork is, as we packed the camper, set up the camper, made meals, and fought with the ants.

A happy marriage is created by treating your spouse the way you want to be treated.  Being thoughtful, kind, encouraging, supportive.  Sometimes unrestrained emotions cause division. (Like it's boiling hot outside and your husband has to lay on the concrete and change a tire.  Tread lightly.)  But when you understand your behaviors, and you're willing to analyze it, you can overcome.

Through my years of marriage, parenthood, and studying human behaviors, I've found there are a few simple ways to turn things around.  It might not work for everyone, but it works for many.  What if it would work for you?  Would you be willing to apply yourself and make those changes?
