Meal Planning Made Easy
Cooking and planning meals day in and day out gets old, but we all like to eat. Tapping into a system or preplanning eases the stress… and the hunger. Here are 3 ways you can make your life easier.
- Use Meal Planning Apps: Apps like Meal Lime and Plan to Eat can help organize your meals efficiently. Some apps even help you figure out your shopping list and who’s not looking for new flavors.
- Create a Weekly Menu Board: A magnetic menu board on your kitchen wall can help you plan meals for the week or even the entire month. This is what we call batching in the business world. Blocking out a time and focusing on one thing increases your productivity… and getting a lot done successfully, timely… feeds my happy-o-meter.
- Efficient Grocery Shopping: Write things down as you throw the container in the trash to ensure you get everything in one trip, saving time and reducing the need for multiple store visits. How many of us buy snacks along with every grocery visit. One trip means you save time, money, and calories. LOL
Family Management Tips
Now that you’ve got your menu, how about all the other tasks that keep your week running smoothly? You're the boss, set your weekly schedule. Cut the frustration of missing something important and feeling like a slave to your family.
- Organize with a Family Calendar: Use a family app organizer or a traditional calendar to keep track of everyone’s schedules. I know this is the answer… but I myself have not mastered this simple concept.
- Implement a Laundry System: Designate specific days for laundry to keep the process manageable and efficient. I like doing all my laundry in one day. It keeps me from leaving things in the washer.
- Encourage Family Clean-Up Sessions: Set a timer for 20 minutes and have everyone participate in a quick clean-up to maintain a tidy home. You could do this daily before bedtime or a couple times a week. Kids support what they take part in and will eventually think twice about leaving their stuff laying around.
Self-Care for Moms
Taking care of yourself is crucial to maintaining a happy and healthy family life. Often our patience is directly linked to our energy level, and I don’t know about you, but I like myself better when I’m patient and proactive with my grandkids. It does get easier as a grandparent because you are no longer on duty 24/7.
- Schedule Personal Time: Dedicate at least 30 minutes a day for yourself to recharge, whether it’s enjoying a cup of coffee or reading a book. I like to sit down and watch HGTV or take a walk and listen to my favorite podcast. Find lots of pro-family and marriage resources on The Extraordinary Marriage Podcast.

- Explore Relaxation Techniques: Consider using sleep apps, noise machines, or blackout curtains to improve sleep quality. I love taking a walk outside which gets me moving and lets me absorb some sun rays.
- Engage in Hobbies: Find time for activities you enjoy, such as reading or journaling, to keep your mind engaged and refreshed. I need a little fun in my life to fill my cup. I used to do ceramics, needlepoint, paint and sew during nap time, when my kids were little. That bit of time filled my soul and keep me rolling.
