Why Do We Sabotage Our Own Happiness? (16)

When I heard this Bible verse, I used to think,

how in the world could that be true! 

Why would people knowingly do the things that destroy them?

Well, how about the alcoholic who's tearing their family apart but keeps drinking, the woman who desperately wants to slim down but keeps eating junk food, the person with a troubled childhood who wants a peaceful life but their baggage from the past keeps them from trusting and developing healthy relationships.

What do they all have in common?

Romans 7: 15-17 "For I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do... For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing." 

I had to read it several times.  It's profound!

About 17 years ago my sweet life bubble was popped as my kids married into other families.  I learned that all families were not like mine.  Small challenges got bigger and I began to realize that the problems we have as parents - Unsolved - become the problems of our kids, and their kids, and their kids.

Has something been done to you or happen to you in the past that causes you to blow your top easily, not trust others, lack confidence, become a control freak, making you unable to connect with your spouse, family, and friends? 

Look for a Christian Counselor, get help, stop the madness now.

Thing is, people ignore it, until it blows up their relationships... over and over and over.

Awareness is the first step, and Action is the next step.

A Psychiatrist, a Counselor, or just learn about yourself and how to communicate better with others... that's what I do.  But get help and begin enjoying this beautiful world and the good people that God created.  You may be blinded by your past and can't see through the dark, thick, woods.  Life is a journey, make yours the best it can be.
